After missing Kim Petras in Los Angeles because of my thirst for K-Pop, I hopped in the car with my cousin and we took a day trip to San Diego to see The Throat Goat herself live!
Feed the Beast makes its way to San Diego before heading off to Denver, Nashville, Houston, Mexico City and lastly Phoenix.
Through the thick of the marine layer and passing temptations such as DisneyWorld and Lego Land we arrived safely to San Diego.
DJ Alex Chapman opened up the show and had everyone on their feet dancing to hits like 'Stars are Blind' 'What Dreams are Made of' and his own 'Horsey' which features Kim Petras.
From the drunk man who kept telling us we were beautiful and the woman in front of me who, without warning, flashed her tits in my direction I expected nothing less from a Kim Petras crowd.
As the show begins Petras enters the stage after being released from an iron maiden singing title track 'Feed the Beast'. Promptly followed by a glimpse into 'Unholy' she was accompanied by none other than the devil himself, to which she exclaims “Oh no, I’m fucked”. Next was a setlist full of Slut Pop, entering the stage in her bra and underwear Petras danced and sang to many hits from the album including 'XXX', 'Superpower Bitch' and while on her knees holding a phallic microphone suspended down towards her mouth from the rafters 'Throat Goat'.
After lubricating our own throats during that performance we screamed our little lungs out to 'They wanna fuck'. We come to see a video of Petras gender bending as a masculine satyre, wearing a latex bodysuit with sculpted abs and donning black horns. While the show is filled with sexually charged moments choreographers Brian and Scott Nicholson tell Paper Magazine "we are incredibly passionate about representation and inclusion- telling real stories and showing real shit on stage, rather than just the regular gender binary pop relationships shown on stage". Petras took to the stage with her powerhouse vocals belting tunes 'There Will be Blood' and 'Everybody Dies'. Circling back to Feed the Beast album Petras enters wearing a pale gown still clad in fishnets and knee high leather boots as snow falls throughout around her while singing 'Brr' and 'Minute'. In the most on brand encore Petras rises from the stage in hot pink shorts and knee high boots, a shirt that reads “I love my pussy” and a larger than life disco ball penis. Back one last time the show closes out with upbeat 'Alone 2.0', 'Problematique' and lastly 'Heart to Break'. The gays go wild and leave the show hyped and probably wearing their neighbors glitter. Final Thoughts: Satanic imagery, phallic symbolism, embracing sexuality and reclaiming what it is to be unapologetically a slut, this concert is the place to be. *Photos were taken from the audience as a ticket holder
